A “How to” guide to running industrial/commercial student projects
These pages are to help university staff in the setting up of software projects that involve external clients.
This can seem like a daunting and stressful prospect and one that is often taken on reluctantly by academics especially if they have had little industrial experience before.
However, the real world of industry has many crucial differences from the sheltered world of the university campus and this web site is an attempt to add more information based on 20 years of experience of successful industrial projects and the running of a student company.
The material here is complementary to the detailed technical and managerial content of the book.
PLEASE NOTE. The text on the back cover of the book contains some nonsense about Windows XP. I never saw this before the book was published – it was written by someone at Wiley without my knowledge. A corrected version of this text is supposed to be inserted in all copies and the offending text is supposed to have been removed from sites such as Amazon – unfortunately it hasn’t.
